Listening to children and young people. Many youth groups in the area have committed to using the Lundy model to inform they way they encourage young people in their clubs to actively participate in having space to share their views and giving young people audiences to let their views influence positive change.

Reducing the impact of violence on young people’s emotional well-being

Groups worked closely with each other and Dr Colm Walsh from Queens University Belfast on a Common Purpose process. This helped groups think about areas of concern and dig deeper into what might be some of the underlying causes and factors. The impact of violence in the community between peers, against women and girls and in-community tension was identified by those involved as needing collective action.

Training was provided by Dr Colm Walsh QUB and Leigh Whittley EA in the Y Box programme which will be delivered by local youth workers across the community with young males.

Youth work offers young people a safe space to explore their identity, to learn about themselves and others. It creates and environment where they can flourish and increase their confidence. It empowers them to explore their values and beliefs and challenges them to see past the norm, to see a bigger picture (Rab, Youth Worker Monkstown Boxing Club)
